Design Lab Logistics

You have been directed to this web site because you confirmed your participation in the Oakland Design Lab meeting. The following information is specifically for the July Design Lab to be held at the Oakland Marriott Hotel.

Times: The meeting will begin on Wednesday, July 23 with Registration at 12:30 pm. The Opening Session and Lunch begins at 1:30 pm. We will adjourn on Friday, July 25, at 12:30 pm.

REGISTRATION
A login and password will be required for anyone who registers for the meeting. Only attendees confirmed through their team leaders will be allowed to register. Be sure to enter full contact information and/or any special accommodations required. Remember to include your assistant's contact information where requested if someone else makes your travel arrangements.

TRAVEL ARRANGEMENTS
As part of the registration process, you will be asked to include your travel dates, times, and airline preferences. We will attempt to accommodate your requests as much as possible.

Shortly after you register, your travel itinerary will be emailed to you for review and approval. Please note that you MUST respond within 24 hours to the travel itinerary email to confirm your travel arrangements. If you must make changes to your itinerary after it is booked, a $100.00 fee will be charged to the individual or organization making the travel arrangements.

NOTE: You will receive a confirmation email detailing the registration and travel information you entered into the system.

GROUND TRANSPORTATION
It is important to note the airport into which you will travel for the meeting to determine the method and cost of transportation to the hotel. For both the San Francisco and Oakland airports, BART (subway system), taxi, and shuttle service are available.

Refer to the chart below outlining each method as well as the approximate cost. Transportation times vary according to the airport and type of transportation, but generally it will take between 45 minutes to an hour to travel from San Francisco, and approximately 20 to 30 minutes to travel from Oakland.

Do note the specific instructions (indicated by asterisks) for certain types of transportation listed below the chart. Be advised that you should contact shuttle services ahead of time to make reservations (both for arrivals and departures) and confirm costs.

BART Instructions*
From the San Francisco airport, take BART to the 12th Street City Center station in downtown Oakland. Once you disembark, head towards the 11th street exit, and go up the escalator. At the top of the escalator you will see the Oakland Marriott City Center directly ahead of you, across the street.

Air BART Instructions**
At the Oakland airport, go to the center aisle outside of ground transportation and look for the Air BART shuttle bus (blue and orange). Take the bus to the Coliseum BART subway station and purchase a $2.00 ticket to go on the Richmond train. Take that train to the 12th Street City Center station in downtown Oakland. Once you disembark, head towards the 11th street exit, and go up the escalator. At the top of the escalator you will see the Oakland Marriott City Center directly ahead of you, across the street.

REIMBURSEMENT INSTRUCTIONS
The Joint Center will reimburse you for all reasonable ground transportation and parking expenses incurred for this meeting. Please note that no other incidentals (i.e. meals, unauthorized hotel stay, etc.) will be reimbursed. Forms should be completed and mailed to the Joint Center - to the attention of Carla Gullatt - along with ALL original receipts.
