Screening of Unnatural Causes: Is Inequality Making Us Sick?

CommonHealth ACTION, in partnership with the Morehouse School of Medicine’s Community Voices and the DeKalb County Board of Health, hosted a screening of In Sickness and In Wealth, the first episode of the documentary Unnatural Causes. Clayton and Fulton County health departments also supported the event. This segment gave an overview and comparison of racial and socioeconomic disparities and their effects on the health of Americans, from various sections of the population. Following the viewing, Rachel Poulain (Director of Outreach at California Newsreel) moderated an expert panel that included Dr. Camara Jones (CDC), Dr. Robert Bullard (Clark Atlanta University), Mr. Marvin Nesbitt (Atlanta Housing Authority), and Representative Howard Mosby (D-GA). The panel also engaged the audience in a discussion about how these inequities are manifested in Georgia as well as ideas for possible solutions to these problems. Approximately 77 people attended the event, which took place at Louis W. Sullivan Auditorium at Morehouse School of Medicine’s National Center for Primary Care.
