WHO WE SERVE

As a member of the National Network of Public Health Institutes, IPHi is a nonprofit resource for public benefit, with a particular emphasis on serving the DC-MD-VA region. In addition to the residents of the District of Columbia, the State of Maryland, and the Commonwealth of Virginia, we have a number of core constituencies:
- Government: Public health institutes necessarily work in partnership with government. This includes supporting health departments and human service agencies as the chief health authorities for their jurisdictions, as well as the many other governmental units that play a role in protecting and improving health, including those responsible for planning, housing,
transportation, economic development, social services, and justice. IPHi currently appreciates its close working relationships with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, the DC Department of Health, Fairfax County Health Department, Maryland Department of Health and Mental Hygiene, Montgomery County Department of Health and Human Services, Prince
George's County Health Department, and the Virginia Department of Health, and looks forward to expanding partnerships with government as it grows its work.
- Local and Regional Leadership Organizations: Our region is rich with umbrella organizations that provide overarching capacity and leadership. IPHi coordinates with many of these organizations, including the Regional Primary Care Association, DC Primary Care Association, Healthy Appalachia Institute, Metropolitan Washington Council of Governments, Maryland
Association of State Health Officers, the Non-Profit Roundtable of Greater Washington, the Region Forward Coalition, Washington AIDS Partnership, and many others to ensure we collectively maximize our support to the region.
- Community-Based Organizations: IPHi provides technical assistance and coordinates demonstration projects that involve community-based organizations working on the ground to improve health throughout the region. Examples of current community-based partners include Family and Medical Counseling Services, MetroTeen AIDS, Our Place DC, United Medical Center, Unity Health Care, Whitman Walker Health, and The Women's Collective.
- Academia: Universities and other research institutions are critical partners in protecting public health. IPHi actively pursues opportunities to collaborate with the region's universities. This currently includes joint projects or exploratory work with Johns Hopkins University Bloomberg School of Public Health and the University of Maryland Prevention Research Center, with opportunities with other institutions under consideration.
- Foundations and Grantmaking Charities: IPHi views private funders as partners, not just sources of financial support. In fact, we offer intermediary services for managing and distributing grant resources, and are serving in that role on several initiatives. In addition to funding from government, IPHi has benefited from support from a range of private funders, including Consumer Health Foundation, Kaiser Permanente of the Mid-Atlantic, the National Network of Public Health Institutes, Robert Wood Johnson Foundation, Washington AIDS Partnership, W.K. Kellogg Foundation, and a number of the region's hospitals and healthcare systems.
